“Left Behind” – The Discrediting of a Theological System

“Left Behind” – The Discrediting of a Theological System

There was a series of books published in the “Left Behind” series. At least two movies have now been made based on those books. They are the source of ridicule from the unbelieving world, and the authors of the ideas presented in those books and movies think the unbelievers are proving the point of their stories. What if their ideas are simply unbiblical and foolish? What does that do for the reputation of the Christian faith, when unbelievers think such ideas are what all Christians believe? What if the theology of those stories is a recent invention that perverts the words of Jesus and the prophets? Thankfully, such theologies typically die over time, but the damage done during that time can be great.

The Savior of Science – -The Faithfulness of God means the Reliability of Legitimate Science post 2

God’s faithful Word means the reliability of science’s laws

Cont’d from Post 1, May 9, 2017.  Excerpts from The Savior of Science:

“Jeremiah’s argument (rather similar to the one in Ps 88) is clearly a reductio ad absurdum, the absurdity of any conjecture that the order of nature would ever show any instability. Almost in the same breath the same reductio ad absurdum is in sight as Jeremiah describes the stability of the physical world (the sequence of day and night) as a covenant betweenYahweh and nature that would sooner be broken than would His faithfulness in keeping His covenant with the people of Israel (Jer 33:25-26).”

The Matrix – Post 3

The Matrix – Caveats

Having made some glowing statements about this movie, I have to add some caveats. First, there is a dearth of explicit reference to sin or anything comparable. Normally, I wouldn’t demand a movie present each aspect of orthodox theology, but The Matrix follows that theology so closely, it seemed important to me that something so important not be left out.  Otherwise, one could interpret this movie as some sort of gnostic presentation, which it may have been intended to be.  I do not know.

Reasoned Discourse vs Exact Science

Science Was Born of Christianity

Reasoned Discourse vs Exact Science

Jaki explained that while Newton’s laws of motion could explain quantitative data, numbers could not place meaning on that data. Therefore, reasoned discourse “stands at the beginning and at the end of quantities, embedding science within it. Exact science depends on reasoned discourse.” Stacy Trasancos, Science Was Born of Christianity: The Teaching of Fr. Stanley L. Jaki (Click link above for Stacey Trasancos’ book). Jaki took to task those who advocated Scientism by pointing out the difference between science & religion:

Science & Creation 2-Exact Science

Science Was Born of Christianity

Galileo, 1st Modern Scientist . . . Really!

Father Stanley Jaki defined exact science this way:  “Exact science is the quantitative study of the quantitative aspects of objects in motion.” Click link above to get Stacey Trasancos’ book, Science was Born of Christianity: The Teaching of Fr. Stanley Jaki. This definition clearly distinguishes modern science from speculative philosophy, theology, and reasoned discourse. It is also an important factor in distinguishing modern science from ancient science, something Jaki studied exhaustively.
