For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist (Colossians 1:16–17).

Avatar – Double Entendres

Avatar – Double Entendres

The movie has many double entendres. For example, the destruction of “home tree” shows a couple of the multiple trunks toppling. It brings to mind the falling of the twin towers. Combined with the Colonel’s comment just before the final battle about fighting terror with terror could be a comment on the GWOT, Global War on Terror.

Do you get the sense that there’s something of a reflection of the War in Iraq as you see the military, hired mercenaries, trying to take the valuable asset (read “Oil”) from the natives (read “innocent Iraqis”)? Continue reading “Avatar – Double Entendres”

Avatar – post 6 – Is Idolatry Possible on Pandora?

Is Idolatry Possible on Pandora?

The corporate CEO in charge of the process of mining Pandora makes the most biblical statement about Pandoran religion when the Dr. is trying to tell him about the scientific and sacred nature of the tree system on Pandora. “You throw a stick in the air around here, and it’s gonna land on some sacred fern, for Christ’s sake.” Interesting combination of words in that sentence. And to make sure the modern, 21st century American, who worships science is brought in intellectually (the viewer is already emotionally on the side of the “real” people of Pandora and not the capitalist pigs the humans are shown as) to side with the Pandorans, the Dr. says, “I’m not talking about some kind of pagan voodoo here, I’m talking about something real, something measurable in the biology of the forest. . . . What we think we know is there is some electro-chemical communication between the roots of the trees, like the synapses between neurons. Each tree has 10 to the 4th connections to the trees around it, and there are 10 to the 12th trees on Pandora. . . . It’s more connections than the human brain. Get it? It’s a network, it’s a global network, and the Navi [Pandorans] can access it. They can upload and download data, memories at sites like the one you just destroyed.” The CEO’s response, while laughing: “What the hell have you people been smoking out there? They’re just g__ d____ trees.”

The Savior of Science – -The Faithfulness of God means the Reliability of Legitimate Science post 2

God’s faithful Word means the reliability of science’s laws

Cont’d from Post 1, May 9, 2017.  Excerpts from The Savior of Science:

“Jeremiah’s argument (rather similar to the one in Ps 88) is clearly a reductio ad absurdum, the absurdity of any conjecture that the order of nature would ever show any instability. Almost in the same breath the same reductio ad absurdum is in sight as Jeremiah describes the stability of the physical world (the sequence of day and night) as a covenant betweenYahweh and nature that would sooner be broken than would His faithfulness in keeping His covenant with the people of Israel (Jer 33:25-26).”

Thoughts on Fr. Stanley Jaki’s Writings

Thoughts on Father Stanley Jaki’s Writings by Stacy Trasancos (Link to Trasanco’s book above)

“John writes, ‘And the Word was made flesh, and came to dwell among us; and we had sight of his glory, glory such as belongs to the Father’s only-begotten Son, full of grace and truth.’ (Et Verbum caro factum est, et habitavit in nobis: et vidimus gloriam ejus, gloriam quasi unigeniti a Patre plenum gratiæ et veritatis.) John used the Greek words μονογενοῦς παρὰ, translated as monogenes, the ‘only begotten’ Son of the Father, and in Latin as unigeniti.

Response to Atheist’s Attack on Christian Scientists (not the religion of Christian Science)

Response to Mr. Kraus’ Opinion Piece in the Wall Street Journal on Christian Scientists (not the religion of Christian Science)

I read the June 26, 2009 opinion piece by Mr. Lawrence M. Kraus and found his rational atheism to contain irrationality and false views of Christian scientists (not the practitioners of the religion of Christian Science). First, the centerpiece of science is not atheism, in practice or theory. The fact that the world runs on principles that are repeating, predictable, and reliable enough for scientists to base trustworthy predictions and proof is evidence of the faithfulness of the Creator and his promises, not evidence that there is no Creator. Mr. Kraus appears to premise his understanding of Christian scientists as only believing in the miraculous and out-of-the-ordinary, like the virgin birth.

Stanley Jaki’s Thought

Science Was Born of Christianity

“Exact Science” vs “More or Less” Philosophy – Jaki

Jaki (click link below for Jaki book, The Savior of Science) was a relentless student of the history of science, and he analyzed just about every culture in history that has attempted science. His unique contribution to the history of science is his detailed explanation as to why “modern science” developed in Western, Christian Europe as opposed to anywhere else.  No matter the genius of their scientists, every other culture’s scientific development was “stillborn.”  And Jaki discovered a religio-cultural explanation for that historical fact. Science & Creation 1

Science Was Born of Christianity

Science, properly defined, is “Exact Science;” the Bible is history.

Science does not conflict with the bible, but define science properly first. The bible is history. Science should be divided into “exact science” (Click link above for Stacey Trasancos’ book, Science was Born of Christianity: TheTeaching of Fr. Stanley L. Jaki) and “speculative science.” The latter is more like philosophy, and bible believers can discourse with philosophers about the world’s origin. However, when “speculative science” claims to be “exact science” (Click link above) &, therefore, absolute truth, when it’s not, that’s when conflict occurs.
