Jesus’ Not So Subtle But Gentle Rebuke of Pontius PIlate 2

It was about competence to rule

As explained in Post 1 on this topic, Jesus’ kingdom being sourced from another place and not of this world does not reduce His authority in this world, it expands it.  Pilate didn’t understand, as he shows later in the conversation.  But Jesus was teaching compassionately even when he spoke with his enemies, even when rebuking them.  Jesus explains that His Kingdom is so powerful that His followers don’t need to fight to defend Him.  His Kingdom doesn’t depend on physical weapons for it to be successful in history and eternity.  It is not based on the physical requirements of a kingdom of this earth, which involve force and coercion.

Jesus’ Not So Subtle But Gentle Rebuke of Pontius Pilate – Post 1

It wasn’t just about separation of church & state

The conversation between Jesus Christ and Pontius Pilate that is recorded in John 18 has been used since time immemorial to justify a radical separation between God’s law and the state.  Here is the passage, which records what occurred after Jesus’ trial before the Sanhedrin and when He was first introduced to Pilate:

The Matrix – Post 7

The Matrix – The Calling, that is, Election

In the Matrix, Trinity sets up a meeting with Neo (hacker name; his real name is Thomas Anderson), a meeting he doesn’t even know he’s attending. They meet in a place that can be described as a den of iniquity, sin and uncleanness.

In their introduction to each other, she meets him and says, “Hello, Neo.” He asks, “How do you know that name?” She answers: “I know alot about you.” When she tells him her name, he asks, “The Trinity? that cracked the IRS D-base?” She says, “That was a long time ago.” He says, “Jesus!” She says, “What?”

Donnie Darko – 3rd Movie Post

Donnie Darko = Christ Figure?

Donnie, knowing all things, preparing to change time

It took me awhile to figure this one out. Normally one viewing is enough for me to get the Christian view of a movie. I find it in just about every movie I watch. It doesn’t matter whether the writer or directors intended a Christian view or not; I normally see it. It’s as if Christ is impossible to avoid in writing stories about humanity. Perhaps it was the complexity of Donnie Darko that kept me from seeing it until I’d watched it four times. Or better yet, it was the fact that the movie is full of so much that remind you of something thoughtful, something from your youth, something realistically or surrealistically engaging. The details of the movie are so good that you don’t readily see the theme that runs throughout.

Cooper, the Father, promising his daughter he’ll return

“Interstellar” came out in 2014. It’s about time and family, but it contains a theological explanation of covenant family and dominion also. Long before seeing it and while sitting in a doctor’s waiting room, I picked up a magazine and noticed an article about the movie. It explained that the makers went to an actual theoretical physicist to learn how to represent a black hole and a worm hole in the movie’s special effects. The scientist allegedly took the equations governing the theoretical operations of these phenomena and matched it with special effects software for a video representation. But when they actually saw the image the equations created, they had made an entirely new scientific discovery as to the operation of the phenomena. Perhaps the first time that a scientific discovery occurred within the special effects process in the making of a movie. Continue reading “Interstellar”

Timing & Confidence

The Timing of the End Matters to Your Confidence

Timing is very important to your view of the last days or end times. My view is very different from most of the popularizations of these terms. Imagine, if you will, that you’re a player on a football team, and you show up for the game after it’s over but don’t know it. You might go out on the field to do battle for your school with no other team mates. You might end up playing for another team whose game was scheduled after yours. If you lost because you played another team all by yourself, having missed the game, you would go to school the next day and report your bad news. Your school mates might tell you, “Hey, we won, don’t be so down. But where were you?” You might be happy to know your team won but sad to know you weren’t part of the effort. What if no one told you and let you go away thinking you had lost the game? What if it were the championship game and ruined your entire year? You get the point. Timing is not everything, but it can sure mess alot of things up.
