For those who want to escape the rat race.
Science does not conflict with the bible, but define science properly first. The bible is history. Science should be divided into “exact science” and “speculative science.” The latter is more like philosophy, and bible believers can discourse with philosophers about the world’s origin. However, when “speculative science” claims to be “exact science” &,therefore, absolute truth, when it’s not, that’s when conflict occurs.
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist (Colossians 1:16–17).

“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:28, KJV.
The earth is the domain of humans,
“For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:” Psalm 8:5-6, KJV.
The warfare between Satan and God moved to earth, for Satan lost quite readily in that earlier war in the heavens. Satan must war by proxy now. Being envious of God’s position as ruler of all, Satan thinks that if he can imitate God, he can win. Not being a creature of earth, Satan must recruit or deceive followers, which is what he did with Adam and Eve. “The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.” Genesis 3:13b, KJV. God did not require Adam to perform any good works prior to creating him. Seems obvious, doesn’t it? So the original gift of life was based on grace. Then why do theologians say that the original covenant between Adam and Eve and God was a “covenant of works?”
The reformed faith teaches that even in the Old Testament, among His people Israel, God did not save any individual based on works. It was always by grace, specifically by faith in a savior to come. It has always troubled me that the Reformed faith is consistent regarding salvation by grace throughout history until it gets to the Garden of Eden before the Fall. If God is a God who never changes, how could he impose a covenant of works at one point in history but a covenant of grace at another?

I read the June 26, 2009 opinion piece by Mr. Lawrence M. Kraus and found his rational atheism to contain irrationality and false views of Christian scientists (not the practitioners of the religion of Christian Science). First, the centerpiece of science is not atheism, in practice or theory. The fact that the world runs on principles that are repeating, predictable, and reliable enough for scientists to base trustworthy predictions and proof is evidence of the faithfulness of the Creator and his promises, not evidence that there is no Creator. Mr. Kraus appears to premise his understanding of Christian scientists as only believing in the miraculous and out-of-the-ordinary, like the virgin birth.
Separating the age of the earth from macro-evolution – you just can’t do it, no matter how hard you try. But Christians, even so-called strong, orthodox, conservative teachers & preachers, like Charles Hodge, 1800’s, & B.B. Warfield, successor to Hodge at Princeton.
So Christians attempt to fit the bible into the box of modern, atheistic science when they try to compromise on the age of the earth. They separate the age of the earth from macro-evolution. If we were simply discussing the “age of the earth” all by itself, there would be no problem. Was it created in 4004 BC or 4006 BC? Does it really make a difference? Those types of questions approach in importance the issue about the number of angels dancing on the head of a pin. But if we’re allegedly off by billions of years, we’re talking about something entirely different.

The Genesis account according to Old Earth (millions of yrs), theistic evolution, bible-believers, so called: (We’ll call it Genesis according to the prophet Hugh Ross or the Ross/Tim Keller version of creation.)
The following is an imaginary, conversation between the Father & an incredulous angelic scribe.
God [speaking to His Son & an angelic scribe as to how the universe is to begin]: In the beginning were elements that came together over billions of years into chunks of matter, stars & moons & such, but in such a way as to defy the general laws of science & form in one spot a completely unlikely place called earth, where all the objects align so that I can create on that place.
Angel [Interrupting]: Sir, why would you cause something to happen contrary to the laws of science you created? And doesn’t that contradict the account you plan to give to the prophet, Moses? As the angelic scribe, I’ve seen the 1st draft of the 1st five books of the bible, you know.
